($205; aged in 200% new French oak for 22 months) Glass-staining ruby. Brooding dark fruit and floral qualities on the nose, with hints of licorice and roasted plum emerging with air. Weighty, palate-saturating blackberry and boysenberry flavors are complicated by notes of candied violet and black pepper, with a late kiss of minerality adding lift. The broad, chewy finish features suggestions of smoked meat and licorice as well as a sexy floral note. Not an easy read today, but this wine's depth and power are very impressive, and promising.
