($40) Powdered stone and mint on the nose. Gives a drier and more classical impression today than the For e t but still shows a distinct roundness. In fact, with its touch of spice, good balance and suave texture, this persistent wine is tasty already.

Hay or Manure or?

My wife and I drank this as a horizontal along with Domaine Pinson Freres Chablis Fourchaume 2008. I would definitely recommend decanting the Montmain at least 2 hours before drinking. On opening, it had a highly unpleasant nose which had us discussing whether it reminded of wet hay, manure, urine or a combination thereof. We definitlely prefer the Fourchaume, but after this wine opened up, it was decent. Of the 3 ratings I've seen (92 Meadows, 89 Tanzer, 88 Parker), I think Parker is closer to the mark. This morning after remaining out all night at room temperature in an open glass, all the unpleasant aroma has disappeared, and the taste is quite plesant.
