Pale, bright straw. Musky pineapple, citrus peel, fresh herbs and licorice on the nose, with enticing floral lift. Densely packed, sweet and bright, with noteworthy fruit intensity for a basic bottling. Finishes with very good length. Not quite complex enough for an outstanding rating but this would make a very flexible dinner-table wine. Genevieve Janssens notes that as of vintage 1999, Mondavi has practiced "green juice winemaking" for its sauvignon blanc and "brown juicy winemaking" for its chardonnay-i.e., preserving sauvignon against oxidation at every step of winemaking and elevage while encouraging the oxidizable enzyme in chardonnay to oxidize and fall out of the wine during the vinification.
