90(+?) Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - March/April 2009

(92% shiraz, 5% mourvedre and 2% cinsault) Full, saturated medium ruby. High-pitched aromas of blackberry, licorice pastille, violet and menthol, lifted by exotic flowers; slightly porty but fresh. Then dense, primal and penetrating, with a crushed berry character complicated by exotic flowers. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins that spread over the palate. Very dry and pure wine, showing limited flesh today; reminded me of a hypothetical blend of northern Rhone and Priorato. This infant needs time in bottle to stretch out and put on weight.
