This Crozes is a wonderful and powerful wine that blossoms when consumed with food. The bacon wrapped filet appetizers that accompanied this wine were enhanced by its smokiness and peppery overtones. The nose exhibited hints of floral, dark fruit and stone that were enticing. The abundance of fruit on the palette was exceptional. The wine was decanted 1/2 hour before first consumption and opened beautifully over the course of the next 2 hours. The Crozes was tasted along with the 2007 Grangier St Joseph from the same club pack shipment. I was a little confused as the vintage that was sent was 2006, not the 2007 as listed. Also, the description of the grape varietal in this Rhone was listed as Merlot, something that had to be an error by WA for this seductive and traditional medium bodied Northern valley offering. I assume the varietals used are traditional for the region, but would like to know the actual blend.
