About Chateau Pontet Canet
In the early 18th century, Jean Francois de Pontet, Royal Governor of the Medoc, purchased several vineyards and united them under the banner of Pontet. Today, this Pauillac Chateau is owned by cognac magnate Guy Tesseron. His son Alfred manages the 80 hectare vineyard.

($29) Full red-ruby. The nose of plum, blueberry liqueur, mocha and smoky oak shows some distinctly exotic suggestions of roasted fruits. Then sweet but firmly built, with a fine-grained texture and solid mineral underpinning to the red berry liqueur flavor. Finishes with substantial building tannins, but the wine's sheer sweetness and fine-grained texture give it early appeal. As crop levels here are carefully controlled and strict selection is practiced to ensure the high quality of this superb property's grand vin, this "second wine" is unusually sweet and concentrated.
