Great fruit
by Tutsch14048390
This is a wine to sip or to dine with. Muted tanins, long finish, great fruit

Haven't tasted yet
Magnificant 2007 Chateauneuf
by Kusha14011709
It is truly hard to find a great '07 Chateauneuf at this price. This wine in well balanced, has a smooth finish and opens up really well if you let it sit a while uncorked.
Simply delicious

No wine stays in our cellar for very long. This Chateauneuf-du-Pape was no exception. Great finish and excellent to drink right now. My only dissatisfaction? That I didn't buy more!
An extra-broad spectrum cuvee
by Golubeva14105281
Once aerated for 2 1/2 hours to expel any semblance of harshness, the wine exhibits lasting dark berry fruit evenly distributed throughout. Not a single hit, but rather a legato of extremely tasty vibrations.
spectacular when aged a few years
by gitler11916688
I should have waited longer before I opened the first bottle upon release. Initially tightly would and the flavors just not developed enough. Waited a year and the change has been magnificent! Fruit purity without being overly sweet, silky tannins, a classic. Sad I'm nearly out!
Lived up to its billing

Aerated with a Vinturi. Clear, bright fruit already; looking forward to seeing how it develops over time.
Terrific Chateauneuf du Pape
by Hoffman13536830
A delicious, mouth-filling wine. Age will benefit the wine, but for the impatient folks, a couple of hours will definitely open and soften the wine.
Love this Chateauneuf du Pape from Xavier Vignon

Wow, it was so wonderful; my friends and I were all very impressed with the wine! Wish we could purchase more!!!!

Very good nose, very heady and I am expecting it will age well.

Smooth, light, and delicious

Nice balance enjoyed the fruit
Nice, but still too young?
by SauvignonBlanc216054
Nice blackberry, cherry, vanilla aroma, with hints of anise and leather. Initial mouthfeel is very round, smooth, luscious. But then the acidity kicks in a bit, leaving a tart finish. Lingering chalky tannin level still. Better with a couple hour decant, but still a bit rough. A decent drink, but I was hoping for more....maybe in another year or so...
Good, not great
by Beach13807740
A perfectly acceptable bottle but I was expecting more given all the hubub surrounding this wine. I would have liked a bit less alcohol in this CdP since I'm growing weary of the heat at 15%. Am now wondering if this was overhyped or if I am simply missing something. Five bottles left to find out...

Lacks body typical of a Chateauneuf.
Good balanced C-du-P, but Oversold by WA
by Crow13882546
The aroma and taste was dark cherries and blackberries, smooth, not heavy, no complexity. Not the power of a good CA Syrah, but well balanced. Lingering aftertaste. Good Rhone wine, but not worth the high price -IMHO.
wonderful and consistent cdp
by kirkland12631217
having visited xavier's facility at chateau hussan and tasted there and having a relatively complete collection of his wines, it is safe to say that these are all typical, consistent, and excellent. the wine which arrived matched what was tasted in france. it is dark and translucent. the aromas are full of black fruits with some smoke, fig, and maybe white pepper. on the palate it is balanced with a wonderful finish; it certainly follows through on the primary and developing tertiary aromas.
Needed air
by CheninBlanc365304
First bottle was disappointing, almost unpleasant. Decided to open the second bottle in the morning and it was much better than the first by dinner time.
by Husock13654407
Muted nose of raspberry, anise, stone, and a tiny hint of game. Glassy in the mouth with a rough feel and a very hollow midpalate. Rough tannins and acid. A little sour but mostly just inexpressive in the mouth. A little oak flavor on the finish. Gets smoother in the mouth with air and comes together into a more harmonious wine showing red currant and stone. Clearly a work in progress with some further aging needed so hard to rate.

About Chateauneuf du Pape

The Rhone's Chateauneuf du Pape has been one of the hottest categories of the new millennium in the American market, thanks in equal part to the nearly candied ripeness and full-bodied, chewy texture of these wines and to an unprecedented string of four consecutive very good to outstanding vintages between 1998 and 2001.
