Ca' del Bosco, a major pace-setting producer with a state-of-the-art vinification and aging facility, is considered by many to make the best Franciacortas, a Champagne-method sparkling wine. (There are very good table wines made here as well.) Founder Maurizio Zanella put Franciacorta on the map in the 1970s by crafting powerful, ripe wines with more body and heft than most Champagnes. The top-of-the-line Annamaria bottling is aged for six months in new barriques and then gets several years of aging on its lees, like a top prestige Champagne.
