2006 Fattoria di Felsina Fontalloro Toscano Rosso (Pre-Arrival)

Year in and year out, Felsina makes some of Tuscany's greatest wines. The wines of Giuseppe Mazzocolin, at the helm for more than 20 years, are benchmarks for the region, from the Rancia Riserva to the Fontalloro, a pure, lush Sangiovese Supertuscan. Part of the explanation are the sandstone, limestone, and clay soils of the vineyards, which also offer a fine few of the medieval towers in the town of Siena. Also important is the warmth of the Castelnuovo Berardenga microclimate. The Vin Santo is also one of the best in Chianti. Considering the high quality, these wines are surprisingly affordable.
