($266) Inky ruby. Ripe cherry and blackcurrant aromas are complemented by cured tobacco, black pepper, smoked meat and licorice. Rather brooding today, showing deep, chewy dark berry and bitter cherry flavors and an exotic note of candied violet. Gains verve with air, picking up sweet red berry qualities and finishing with outstanding persistence and chewy, tannic grip. Of these three vintages this one seems to be the one that will require the most patience.
