($15) Saturated, bright red-ruby. Pure aromas of strawberry jam, cassis and pepper, with a minty high note. Sweet, round and fruity, with good stuffing and ripeness; a step up in generosity of texture and richness from the 2008. Ripe tannins give support to the wine and extend its finish. An excellent value.

a rose for food

This a a very nice rose. Strawberry on the nose and on the palate, with a bit of earth and minerality. It is quite complex with the bright acidity on the mid-palate and a surprising light tannin finish. Not sweet, as some roses can be, but still nicely fruity. It was better with food, than it was as an aperitif. It went great with grilled veggies and some cheeses. This is a winner.

But with per-capita consumption in the domestic market in sharp decline since the mid-1970s, Argentina's wine producers realized that they had to look to export markets to remain in business, and winemaking in Argentina began its transformation.

Malbec

The Malbec grape may have originated in southwest France, where it still is grown under the name Cot. However, the grape's international profile has surged not because of what's going on in France, but rather because of current trends in Argentina.
