2007 La Cerbaiola (Salvioni) Rosso di Montalcino
Producer: La Cerbaiola (Salvioni)
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Sangiovese
Origin: Italy
Region: Tuscany
92 Points | International Wine Cellar , October 2009
($40) Bright medium-deep ruby. Perfumed, intense nose is redolent of redcurrant, red cherry, tobacco and flint. Enters lush and broad, with intense but firm-edged strawberry, raspberry, tar and mineral flavors offering impressive sweetness and pliancy. The raspberry element veers toward liqueur-like but without any loss of cut or clarity on the very long, pure finish, which also offers a lingering note of iron. Built to age, this is a Brunello in everything but name. It should not surprise Montalcino lovers to know that Salvioni credits Diego Molinari of La Cerbaiona with having been as close to a mentor as he ever had. (Vias Imports, New York, NY)
