90 Points | International Wine Cellar , January 2012

Bright, saturated ruby-red.  Pure aromas and flavors of blackberry, violet, bitter chocolate and licorice enlivened by a whiff of cardamom.  Broad, rich and ripe but with harmonious acidity energizing the dense middle palate.  Quite dry and classic.  Even tannins spread out to coat the palate on the long, rising finish.  Very nicely balanced malbec.

Smooth, berries... a joy paired with a nice steak.
The Case for Malbec

It is probably the best, most robust tasting Malbec we've purchased. Should've bought more.
Gran Reserva Bargain

The Gran Reserva has notably more depth and flavor above the already impressive regular Fabre Montmayou. This is Malbec that should make Argentina proud. Nice selection!

Deep purple, the nose a bit restrained. Intensely flavored with good aging potential. We aerated it with one of those wine finers but next time will decant and let it sit for awhile to let the nose develop.
Great wine that needs lots of air or aging

This is the second vintage I've purchased this wine. One of my all time favorite malbecs.

This Wine may require one or two more years to mature. But quality of the wine is good enough to drink now. I thought I should have ordered more than one dozen.
Very Nice Malbec!

Lots of black cherries, purple fruit and vanillin oak on the nose. The palate gets the gift the nose promised, along with a lush, rich mouth feel. Long smooth finish with just a touch of fine tannin and nice acid balance. Excellent! You guys need a 4.5 rating.
Worth the Wait

As stated in the description for this wine, the more time it was allowed to breathe, the better it became. The wine needed a day to lose the tight flavor present after opening, but it wasn't until the second and third day that the flavor and softer texture came out. Great wine for the price.
Wow - great value for this Malbec!

4/2010: Very dark purple color to the edge. Nose redolent of black fruit. Wine is full bodied and the taste is loaded with black fruit and imparts a hint of smoke. After one hour in air, sharp tannins were still present in the finish. However, on second day the harshness was totally gone presenting us with a lovely, smooth "fruit bomb" of a wine. The full body and forward fruit make this wine a perfect accompaniment with a beef or lamb dish. 4 not 5 stars only because the finish was pleasing but not particularly long. At this price, though, this Malbec easily beats anything I've found in local retail shops. Wines like this keep me a satisfied WA customer. If you were able to buy some, I'd say lay down for at least one year from now.

Opened at 10:00 a.m. and tasted small amount. Harsh, fruity and "green" when initially opened. Drank at 6:00 p.m. with a mustard crusted chicken dinner. After 8 hours of breathing it had softened tremendously and was a perfect foil to the mustard chicken. After breathing, the wine revealed ripe yet soft dark fruits, with lots of compexity and a lingering but not long finish. This one is going to stay in the cellar a few years. Looking forward to trying it again in 2012. One of the better Malbecs I have tried and a fabulous wine at the price point. Hard to beat.

Decanted for several hours as suggested. Opened up some but still thinking this needs more time to reach full potential. Wish I had the patience to leave it open for three days like they did in the original description.

About Argentina

Until the early 1990s, Argentina's wine industry was focused inward, as the local market's thirst was sufficient to absorb the huge quantities of everyday drinking wine produced there. But with per-capita consumption in the domestic market in sharp decline since the mid-1970s, Argentina's wine producers realized that they had to look to export markets to remain in business, and winemaking in Argentina began its transformation.

Malbec

The Malbec grape may have originated in southwest France, where it still is grown under the name Cot. However, the grape's international profile has surged not because of what's going on in France, but rather because of current trends in Argentina.
