About Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards

Todd Anderson's 40-acre estate, set east of St. Helena where Conn Creek Flows out of Howell Mountain, has some swanky neighbors in Joseph Phelps and Joseph Heitz. Here he produces a rich, non-malolactic Chardonnay, a Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and his heavy-weights, Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve and Eloge, a deep, rich blend of Cabernet and Cabernet Franc, with superb aging potential.

Going to be a superstar

I picked up 4 bottles so I had the luxury of opening one young and it was full of promise. Dark purple color with red and black fruits and a nice balance of oak. Will improve with 5 years of cellaring and drink well for the next 15 years.

Wine Access gave me my first exposure to Anderson's Conn Valley, and after trying a bottle earlier than normal, I'm glad I got in on the action. A beautiful, big Cab. Still going through its maturing process, but it has both the fruit and tannins to get even better. You can drink it now, but decant or open well in advance.

I give this 4 stars only because I'm sure there is something a little better somewhere- I just haven't found it yet. This is a spectacular wine that everyone who loves cabernet should be able to have available whenever your S.O. says, "let's have something REALLY good this evening."

About Napa Valley

Napa Valley is the most famous wine-growing area in the U.S. It begins at the base of Mount St. Helena in the north and tapers off some 30 miles to the south into the floodplain where the Napa River enters San Francisco Bay. From Mount St. Helena to the city of Napa, the valley is defined by two north-south ridgelines of the Coast Range Mountains.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon built its reputation on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Here, in the district of Medoc, the varietal is the key component of blended wines that also may include some Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and even Malbec and Petit Verdot. Moving slightly south, Cabernet Sauvignon meets Merlot in roughly equal proportions in the red wines of Graves. In both of these Bordeaux regions, the top bottles...
