Jean-Marc Pavelot, now joined by his son Hughes, maintains what is arguably the top estate in the underappreciated village of Savigny-lès-Beaune...
2008 Jean-Marc & Hugues Pavelot Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses
Producer: Jean-Marc & Hugues Pavelot
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Pinot Noir
Origin: France
Region: Burgundy
Appellation: Cote de Beaune
89(+?) Points | International Wine Cellar , March/April 2011
Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Guettes. Cherry, smoke, wild herbs and aromatic spices on the nose, plus a whiff of resin. Suave on entry, then penetrating and youthfully imploded in the middle, with a slight acid edge to the dark cherry, tar and earth flavors. This very persistent wine needs at least a few years in the bottle. Incidentally, Hugues Pavelot views 2008 as "a slightly more harmonious version of 2001. The 2001s are more tannic."
