About Chateau de Fargues
The home property of the Lur-Saluces family, formerly owners of Château d'Yquem, Fargues produces extraordinarily unctuous, honeyed wines from tiny vine yields.
2009 Chateau de Fargues Sauternes
Producer: Chateau de Fargues
Style: Sweet Wine
Grape Type: Semillon
Origin: France
Region: Bordeaux
Appellation: Sauternes and Barsac
90-93 Points | International Wine Cellar , May 2010
Medium yellow-gold. Reticent but pure aromas of apricot, ginger, honey, marzipan and vanilla gain in force with aeration. Plump on the palate, but with a firm core of acidity and strong spice character giving definition and verve to the ripe peach, honeyed botrytis and spicy marzipan flavors. This will need time to harmonize, but already displays very good underlying structure and sweetness, and finishes with a lingering white pepper note. A fairly typical Fargues, falling somewhere between the overt fruitiness of Barsac and the opulence of Yquem
