About Chateau Montelena
Chateau Montelena has produced wine in the Napa Valley for over 100 years. But only since 1972, when the Barret family took over management, has quality taken off. Overseeing the production of roughly 36,000 cases annually, winemaker Bo Barret produces classic, austere Cabernet Sauvignons as well as Zinfandels and Chardonnays.

Region: Napa
92(+?) Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 2011
(13.9% alcohol; bottled in December of 2010): Highly aromatic nose combines black cherry, cassis, violet, bitter chocolate and menthol. Dense and concentrated, conveying a small-berry concentration to the cassis and red fruit flavors. Finishes classically dry and a bit saline, but rather approachable for this wine at this early stage. The oak component is already being nicely absorbed. The broad finish features a fine dusting of tannins. Vine stress in 2008 brought more concentration, noted assistant winemaker Crafton. This seems every bit as successful as the 2007.
