(84% semillon and 16% sauvignon blanc) Bright straw with some gold. Pretty, heavily semillon-influenced aromas of beeswax, white peach and spicy candied pear. Smooth and a bit youthfully simple, with flavors similar to the aromas, this is a lovely, refreshing mouthful of wine. Perhaps just a little dilute on the moderately persistent finish, but this delicious wine will be hard to resist over the near term. Previously called Les Plantiers du Haut-Brion, La Clarte is the new name for the second white wine of Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. Always produced in vintages when one of the two top growths is declassified (for example, in 1974 and 1990 Les Plantiers was entirely made up of declassified Haut-Brion), this second wine has tended to be a mixture of the two wines since 1992. Interestingly, as this '09 version is mainly declassified semillon from Haut-Brion (only one very small lot of sauvignon blanc from Haut-Brion was downgraded), the bottle shape for La Clarte this year is the same as that of Haut-Brion.
