Deep ruby. Rather backward nose hints at cassis, black cherry, eucalyptus, graphite and minerals, but remains stubbornly closed even with prolonged aeration. Sweet, broad and rich, but with enticing fresh minerality giving energy to the rather full-bodied middle palate. Finishes perfumed and very long, with supple but mounting tannins. More complex than the regular Taurasi but currently not that much better. I'd cellar this for 5 years and enjoy it for another 15 after that. Made from a single vineyard in the cool-climate area of Lapio, this spent 24 months in small French oak barrels.

About Italy

Italy, like France, offers a world of wine styles within a single country: dry Italian white wines ranging from lively and minerally to powerful and full-bodied; cheap and cheerful Italian red wines in both a cooler, northern style and a richer, warmer southern style; structured, powerful reds capable of long aging in bottle; sparkling wines; sweet wines and dessert wines.
