Good bright dark red.  Perfumed, profound aromas and flavors of red cherry, rose oil, minerals and crushed stone, with darker berries emerging with air.  Like liquid velvet on the palate--lush dense and incredibly fine-grained.  Most impressive today on the extraordinary expanding, palate-staining finish, which rises to a crescendo of spices and minerals.  A wine of great thrust and chewiness, this is hard to scrape off the palate.  An essence of Corton grand cru.

Unparalleled delineation of fruit flavors and minerals - like actors in a well-rehearsed play, they make timely appearances, then remain distinct and recognizable till the end. The best red I have been fortunate enough to taste.

It also produces outstanding red Burgundies (such as in Santenay and Volnay), even if Pinot Noir here rarely possess quite the stuffing, complexity, and longevity of...

Pinot Noir

Adored by critics, prized by collectors, Pinot Noir is one of most tantalizing yet temperamental varietals in the world. For many wine enthusiasts, this is part of the appeal of Pinot -- it doesn't reveal its charms easily. Pinot Noir's virtue also stems from the unique characteristics of the grape. The skins are especially delicate, which accounts for the lighter color and body of finished wine. But, despite the delicacy, the best wines have excellent backbone and...
