Style: White Wine
Grape Type: Chardonnay
Origin: California
Region: Central Coast
Appellation: Santa Rita Hills
91 Points | International Wine Cellar , November/December 2010
($26) Vivid gold. A pungent, complex bouquet of orange zest, pear, anise and jasmine, with a strong spicy quality that expands with aeration. Sappy, palate-staining citrus and floral qualities are complemented by notes of succulent herbs and mango, with a bitter lime bite on the back half. Quite complex now but there's very good spine too. The finish is firm, focused and very long.

Excellent CA Chadonay with burgandy like characterisics. For the price I have not found any better!

This wine had wonderful acidity and crispness. Definitely more French style than the American style to which I am accustomed and which I do not like.
Decent Chardonnay

I am a fan of Melville but this Chardonnay isn't quite up to the 4 or 5 stars I usually give to their Pinot bottlings. Not a bad wine but no wow factor.

This was not quite as dry as we'd like.
BAD, BAD, BAD

If Tanzer rated this 91 pts. he has lost his taste buds. This is the poorest example of a wine living up to it's rating I have purchased on WA. It is just not in the bottle, weak, poor finish, little body and over all nothing but another commercial Chard, Made to make money only. God help me - I ordered 2 cases. Oh well, I see 23 Christmas presents going out the door.
Even Worse

First review 12/09/2011. Received an email from WA. Please wait and give the wine time in the bottle. Okay - weeks later, after taking a bottle to visit friends in Napa who would not drink it, I tried another bottle. Not any better and now feel this wine warrants a one star rating because there is nothing lower.
This is poor Chard - as stated before an over rated commercial wine produced for the retail market - did not move so on to WA. Now I buy a fair amount of wine from WA. This is the only negative review I have ever submitted and see others feel the same way. Now the 22 bottles remaining sit in the cellar taking up space. I think I wil save them for summer picnics when everyone has a little too much and really dosen't care. Now that would be the time to serve this stuff. Recently other Melville wines, I think red, showed on WA - I thought no way - not going there again.
Can I rate less than 1 star?

Definitely not my cup of tea. Very sour. Perhaps there was something wrong with my bottle since there appeared to be sediment all over the bottom of the cork. Nothing to like about this at all in my opinion.
One star because zero isn't an option

Awful. Cold it has a heavy chemical taste. Warmer it tastes earthen. Not earthy, like dirt!!
