About Beckmen Vineyards

When winemaker Steve Beckmen returned from Italy in 1997, he was convinced that his family's recently purchased hillside in Santa Barbara County would be perfect for growing Rhône varietals. His father Tom was skeptical, but since then, Purisima Mountain Vineyard has established itself as one of the finest sources of Syrah and Grenache in the Central Coast.

($48) Inky purple. Intensely ripe, almost liqueur-like aromas of pungent cherry, cassis and sweet oak. Lush, very ripe and high-toned, with a pronounced sweetness to its maraschino cherry and dark berry compote flavors. Not the most complex wine but this is stuffed with fruit and nicely concentrated. Finishes with substantial but sweet tannins and lingering vanilla and cassis qualities.
