Very deep inky-ruby color. Very ripe aromas of blackcurrant, balsamic plum, mocha and scorched earth. Sweet, plush and creamy on entry, then rather tannic in the middle, with exotic oak notes of chocolate and mocha. A soft, plush, sweet style of wine with plenty of ripe black fruit and chocolate flavors. Finishes moderately long, with soft, ripe tannins. This big, creamy wine is an Italian wine icon for some collectors; it's well made as always but in this vintage seems to be rather monolithic. Perhaps a couple of years in the bottle will bring greater complexity but I don't think this vintage will be remembered as one of the better Terra di Lavoros. . (Winebow, Inc., Hohokus, NJ)
