93(+?) Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - November/December 2010

($68; 82% syrah, 14% mourvedre and 4% grenache) Opaque ruby. Complex, decadent aromas of blackberry liqueur, licorice, black cardamom, spicecake and espresso. Deep, sweet and tactile on the palate, offering dense dark fruit flavors and surprising energy. Finishes with a firm tannic backbone and lingering bitter chocolate, blackberry compote and candied licorice notes. Forget this one for a few years, at least. Incidentally, the 2007 Overthinker is showing intense spiciness and smoky character right now, with a vibrant core of red fruit and excellent clarity. Readers who own it should keep their hands off.
