(100% aglianico; 6.2 g/l total acidity; 3.57 pH; 29.8 g/l dry extract; 12.95% alcohol):  Medium red with an amber rim.  Musky, reduced aromas of rust, game, espresso and tobacco complicate red cherry and redcurrant on the nose.  Then surprisingly supple and sweet in the mouth, offering moderate concentration and decent energy to the red fruit and underbrush flavors.  Finishes with modest persistence, a hint of caramel oak and limited complexity.  Disappointing.

About Italy

Italy, like France, offers a world of wine styles within a single country: dry Italian white wines ranging from lively and minerally to powerful and full-bodied; cheap and cheerful Italian red wines in both a cooler, northern style and a richer, warmer southern style; structured, powerful reds capable of long aging in bottle; sparkling wines; sweet wines and dessert wines.
