90 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - November/December 2010

($45) Distinctive and varietally expressive aromas of cherry, pepper and tree bark, with a hint of game. Intensely flavored and juicy but not at all a fat style, with sweet red fruits framed by penetrating, slightly edgy acidity and lifted by a peppery nuance. A note of cocoa powder plays off nicely against the red berry fruit. This needs to be served with food. The Rasa Vineyards wines are the project of brothers Pinto and Billo Naravane, longtime wine lovers with backgrounds in engineering and mathematics, who established their winery in 2007 with the objective of making terroir´┐Ż-driven wines from Rhone varieties-"and to exercise the right halves of our brains," according to Billo.
