($700) Dark purple. Highly perfumed, complex nose offers red and black fruits, rose pastille, minerals and spicecake. Very intensely flavored and detailed, with sweet, penetrating raspberry and bitter cherry flavors complicated by suave notes of mocha and candied flowers. Finishes very sweet and long, with lingering notes of red fruit, smoke and flowers. These wines finished at 14% alcohol, "which is low for us," according to assistant winemaker Patricia Benitez, with whom I tasted this year. (The Rare Wine Company, Sonoma, CA)
