($145; for a magnum; a 66/34 blend of touriga nacional and syrah) Glass-staining purple. A complex, heady bouquet projects blackberry preserves, lavender, lily of the valley, spicecake and anise. Sweet dark berry and floral pastille flavors stain the palate and are lifted by tangy acidity, which adds focus and back-end cut. Pretty showy right now, but this wine's liveliness and finishing grip suggest that it really deserves some patience. I like the energy here. (Fine Estates from Spain, Dedham, MA)
