($164; 200% new oak, 10% of it Romanian) Glass-staining ruby. Deep, pungent aromas of blackcurrant, anise, espresso, truffle and violet, with a smoky mineral quality that gains power with air. Spicy, mineral-accented cherry and cassis flavors are lifted by tangy minerality and show excellent clarity. Fine-grained and precise, with strong finishing grip and persistent spiciness. Changes a lot with air; this is a baby.
