Penultimate Pennsauken Offering
02/14/2012
by chard12454864
It's rare to find a Cotes du Rhone that matches with a ribeye as well as lamb. Somehow, this beauty achieves a light attack on the tongue yet gives the impression of originating from dark soil composition. I find that friends enjoy the taste when they are more accustomed to Cabernet. Maybe it's the deep color and very easy finish.

Very nice wine. Not too complex, can be enjoyed by itself and is very good with food. Had it with coq au vin and it seemed a perfect pair. Nice bouquet, balanced fruit with a hint of pepper. Nice finish. Just very pleasant to have in a glass, could drink it every day and will for a while as I stocked up. Good value.

I loved this one, especially considering the price. Very easy to drink, maybe too easy.

My wife and I had passed beyond French wines and have created a cellar of Italian. However there remains a corner reserved for this Xavier offering. Very obviously French and very good.

Quite young, but drinking nicely with a bit of air. Spicy, fruity, and food friendly. Looking forward to the next one.
Afternoon Delight

Very smooth out of the bottle. Found it wonderfule with a plate of assorted cheeses. Will certainly enjoy the remainder of the case I purchased.
Rhone style for any meal

Light, thin body. Cherrywood color stain, yet able to see through. Cranberry and violet on the nose, very elegant. Soft pomegranate, a little thyme, acidity on the tart side of balanced. Alcohol very well integrated, yet ever so slightly warming. Bright, light tart purple tree fruit persist at long finish, with hints of red licorice and dried sandalwood. A little too delicate for my palate and cooking style. Paired with a fennel-sausage ragout – worked.
Glad I bought a case

Really enjoyed first bottle, smooth, nice structure, big body for long haul. I went to pull a bottle last night and decided to wait b/c I want to cellar this one. Just bought more today so now I'll go back and open that bottle tonight!

This wine compares wel to many 2007 chateauneuf du pape wines in our collection. We are enjoying it.
not quite as good as the price

This wine didn't do anything for me or my husband. Was sorry I bought a case! Was a good price, and the write up made it sound like a good deal. I too am trying to decide what to do with the other 11 bottles. Maybe cook with it. Maybe not!
Not good!

I have bought several wines from WineAccess and felt that the sales reviews were on target, so I was excited about tryinng this one. Typically I concur with the RP ratings and I am a fan of GSM wines. However, I thought that this wine lacked body, character and density, and had an unpleasant harshness. I bought a case and am trying to figure out what to do with 11 more bottles.
worst bottle of wine I ever had

This was my 1st purchase from WineAccess, I still have another order outstanding. I sincerely hope
the next order is better than this. the Xavier
Vignon Cotes du Rhone was without a doubt the worst bottle of wine I have ever had. I literally took one sip...tried it again...and poured the whole bottle down the drain.
