(100% syrah from the Cote Brune):  Opaque ruby.  Aromas of dark berry compote, violet and pipe tobacco, along with olive and cracked pepper nuances and a touch of woodsmoke.  Lush and creamy on entry, then firmer in the middle, offering deep blackberry and cassis flavors enlivened by slow-mounting spiciness.  The smoky note repeats on the long, fruit-driven finish.
