About Chateau Rayas
Historically cited as the exception that proves that a 100%-Grenache wine can be capable of long aging, Rayas has for decades been treasured for its unique combination of almost Burgundian red-berry perfume and extraordinary liqueur-like ripeness and mouth-filling richness. Founded in 1880 by Albert Reynaud, Chateau Rayas is now maintained by Albert’s great-grandson, Emmanuel.
2009 Chateau Rayas Chateau de Fonsalette Syrah Cotes du Rhone
Producer: Chateau Rayas
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Syrah/Shiraz
Origin: France
Region: Rhone
Appellation: Cotes du Rhone
93 Points | International Wine Cellar , January 2012
Opaque ruby. Highly perfumed bouquet of blackberry, cherry, Asian spices and violet, with subtle pepper and mineral notes emerging with air. Juicy, penetrating and gently sweet, offering fresh red and dark berry flavors and a smoky mineral underpinning. Impressively vibrant syrah with excellent finishing clarity and a lingering note of zesty spices. This could easily pass as an elegant wine from the northern Rhone.
