(from Stolpman's older syrah blocks, now 17 years old, according to winemaker Sashi Moorman):  Bright ruby.  Deeply pitched aromas of black cherry, violet and licorice.  Brooding and quite primary in the mouth; the least expressive today of this winery's 2009 syrah offerings.  The wine's saline impression of density is leavened by good limestone energy.  The tannic spine of this rich, layered syrah calls for three or four years of patience. (ST)

Great Syrah (again)

Very Fruity in the glass. Decanted 4 hrs and it really opened up. Good depth to the grape through out the mouth. Blackberry forward with some earthy hints. Long mellow finish. It was a pleasant surprise for a young wine. I'm becoming a big fan of their Syrah, it should age well.

At this moment I am tasting the Stolpman 2009 "Originals" vs. the 2009 Stolpman Syrah. What a treat! The Originals coats the palate with a density & viscosity of motor oil. Deep black with only a tinge of purple on the rim, the nose offers up crushed berry fruit and a slight herbacious hint. Crushed boysenberry, strawberry, cherry are forward on the attack and a hint of saddle leather rounds out an unctous syrah that begs for the cellar. Good news -I have 3 bottles remaining. Bad news... same thing.

Deep purple, strong from the first sip to the last, and smooth. Easy to drink. Very much enjoyed.

I haven't had a bad Stolpman yet! I recommend this Syrah highly for those that like serious reds.
Full rich flavor

Enjoy the full, rich flavor of this wine. Great nose, lush fruit, strong finish. Solid all the way around. Should drink well through 2015.
A word of advice

I am a huge Stolpman fan and didn't want to rate this yet, but you have to be able to submit a review. I want to suggest waiting to drink this wine. The bottle I had was boring and flacid. I don't know if this means it has closed down as critics suggest or just needs time to mature (or my palate was off that night?). Otherwise this doesn't even come close to the estate bottling for the delicious fruit and sophisticated aromatics that a good Stolpman provides. I hope I can upgrade this review next year.

Black fruit was more a bit roasted. My add-on would be the volume was significantly down. As one reviewer mentioned, this is a bit hyped, but solid
Very Syrupy

After all the hype in the text, I found this a huge disappointment. Almost as syrupy as an over-the-counter cough syrup. It took a long time for that mouth feel to get out of the way to find anything on the pallet. It wasn't worth the wait.
