About Chateau La Mission Haut Brion
Once a rival of the adjacent Chateau Haut-Brion, La Mission has actually shared ownership with its neighbor since 1983. While just a narrow suburban street divides the two properties--both are located within the city limits of Bordeaux--La Mission's wines maintain their distinctive wilder identity: more powerful and more tannic, often displaying a meaty, truffley character with extended time in bottle.

Medium red-ruby. Black cherry, licorice, minerals, mint and violet on the nose. Then almost creamy in the mouth, delivering sweet flavors of dark berries, minerals and candied violet. Some tangy red berry notes emerge with aeration, providing lift and focus, but there's an enticing plumpness of texture here. Finishes with very good length and lift, lovely balance and plenty of early appeal. (ID)
