About Araujo Estate

Their flagship bottling is dense, powerful and rich, typically with soil-inflected notes of plum, mocha, tobacco and smoke, and very suave tannins.

(blended with 4% viognier; the grapes were harvested on August 23 and 24, according to winemaker Nigel Kinsman):  Good red-ruby.  Restrained but complex nose hints at musky raspberry, tobacco, Brazil nut, crushed rock, smoke and pepper.  Suave, smoky and fine-grained in the mouth, with an enticing sweetness nicely supported by ripe acids.  Spreads out to saturate the mouth on the long finish, which features smooth tannins and a firm spine of acidity.  I like the influence of the cooler vintage here, as this wine shows more convincing varietal character than in warmer years.
