More About This Wine
About Chateau Montelena
Chateau Montelena has produced wine in the Napa Valley for over 100 years. But only since 1972, when the Barret family took over management, has quality taken off. Overseeing the production of roughly 36,000 cases annually, winemaker Bo Barret produces classic, austere Cabernet Sauvignons as well as Zinfandels and Chardonnays.
2009 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate Napa Valley
Producer: Chateau Montelena
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Cabernet Sauvignon
Origin: California
Region: Napa
93 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 2012
(bottled in December of 2011): Good red-ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of black cherry and menthol lifted by rose and spice oils. Suave, pure and vibrant, with red berry and spice flavors lifted by a pungent minty quality. Nothing black fruit about this vintage. Finishes with fine-grained, rather silky tannins and terrific energy. Less forbidding at this young stage than many recent vintages of this wine, and in a distinctly food-friendly style. This wine benefited dramatically from its final months in barrel.
