About Viader Vineyards & Winery

Since she released her first vintage in 1989, Delia Viader's flagship Proprietary blend has been an elegant, juicy, harmonious midweight whose sizable Cabernet Franc component contributes blackberry and licorice elements and a pronounced violet character to the core of Cabernet Sauvignon. According to Viader, her success comes from the terroir—a sunny spot at the foot of Howell Mountain—but we know it helps to have a bright mind calling the shots too.

(50% cabernet sauvignon, 44% syrah, 5% cabernet franc and 1% malbec; this fruit spent 60 to 70 days on its skins, with part of the fermentation taking place in barrel, and some in concrete eggs and tanks):  Slightly liqueur-like aromas of overripe raspberry, rose petal, graphite, leather and herbs.  Silky-thick in the mouth for a Viader wine, but with good lift and syrah perfume to the middle palate.  Nice rising, vinous finish shows good length and surprising lift.  This bottling is now where the estate's syrah grapes go.  Alan Viader noted that he's now using Burgundy barrels for the syrah, and has stopped using Russian oak.

About Napa Valley

Napa Valley is the most famous wine-growing area in the U.S. It begins at the base of Mount St. Helena in the north and tapers off some 30 miles to the south into the floodplain where the Napa River enters San Francisco Bay. From Mount St. Helena to the city of Napa, the valley is defined by two north-south ridgelines of the Coast Range Mountains.
