About Ravenswood Winery
Ravenswood Winery has humble origins, beginning in 1976. This was the year Joel Peterson harvested his first crop of Zinfandel. Not from his own vines, however, Joel consistently sourced grapes from vineyards in Sonoma County and Napa Valley. At first it wasn’t by choice, he simply couldn’t afford to buy land. Now, steadfast relationships have delivered a successful formula. As the old saying goes…if it ain’t broke…

Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Zinfandel
Origin: California
Region: Sonoma
93 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 2011
Glass-staining ruby. Explosive scents of black raspberry, cracked pepper, Asian spices and violet. Then sweet, pliant and graceful in the mouth, with a silky texture and lively red and dark berry flavors. For a zin this is remarkably elegant. Finishes impressively long and sappy, with creamy red berry preserve flavors and fine-grained tannins. There's 22% petite sirah in here, according to Joel Peterson, which makes its light touch even more intriguing.
