90 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - July/August 2011

Vivid ruby-red.  Sexy aromas of candied dark berries, cola, woodsmoke and potpourri.  Oak-spiced cherry and blackberry flavors show a sweet vanilla quality and a supple texture.  This open-knit, broad pinot finishes with very good clarity, punch and length.  I'd enjoy it on the young side.

This Pinot Noir charts it's own course somewhere between the purgatory between Burgundy, Oregon, and Russian River - very unique, in a great way. Medium garnet. Red raspberry and cranberry, hint of thyme and green anise. Tart, bright red fruit throughout, light body, with a clean, crisp finish with cranberry fruit, lingering tannins and mild, soft heat. Handled lightly, not a typical West Coast execution of this varietal, more earthy as it breathes.

The skins are especially delicate, which accounts for the lighter color and body of finished wine. But, despite the delicacy, the best wines have excellent backbone and...
