Glass-staining ruby.  Brooding black and blue fruits and anise on the nose.  Weighty blackberry and blueberry flavors are complicated by bitter chocolate and olive, with a touch of licorice in the background.  Rich and deep but missing some finesse; the finish is broad, chewy and long.  Air helps this wine a lot.

While the grape is currently grown throughout the world, the most elegant Syrahs still come from the Northern Rhone valley, particularly the appellations of Côte Rôtie, Cornas, and Hermitage.
