Awesome old-style Zin with dash!
Luscious rich bouquet of berries & spice. Lively, varied fruit, mostly red mixed with black along with subtle earthy tones. Moderate balanced finish.
3 Vines Zin
3 stars for quality, 1 for value. If kept chilled, the taste is black fruit. As it warms to room temp, pepper taste takes over. I like the fruit, so I keep the temp low. In my opinion, this is a better value than the thin wines coming from Argentina. Feel free to send me a case of this wine each year at the current price.
Great Food and Sipping Wine
We had a family get together. Dinner was Pozole, a Mexican pork and hominy stew with tomatoes. I decided to serve two wines the Three Old Vines and a Super Tuscan. We didn't have time to decant so out of the bottle everyone favored the Super Tuscan. While we drank it it became fruitier, while we let the Three Old Vines sit for about 30 minutes or so. No one noticed when I switched bottles, so when I did serve the Three Old Vines they still thought they were on the ever evolving fruity Super Tuscan, and I knew their reactions would not be affected by their first taste out of the bottle. The wine was very fruit forward, but not quite jammy, yet it still had a pronounced earthiness and hint of spice, which my wife and I find to be the best of both worlds. Very well balanced with a great finish. Everyone was very impressed with how well it went with the food and when we were done eating how enjoyable it was on its own. My only regret is that I split a case with my coworker. At this price I should have bought it all for myself.
Doesn't get a lot better
Still working through these bottles. This is a great classic Zin. Not sure the younger generation will appreciate it.
Old Vine Zins
This old vine was peppery and a bit young. After being exposed to the air for an hour or so it really mellowed out nicely.
For not against Contra Costa
The rate at which these have been flying off the rack since delivery suggests I should have plonked for the whole case. Dark blackberry color, oodles of extract in the little bubbles that form when you pour, brambly and spicy in the nose; on the palate it is nicely balanced, dark berries, some meaty notes, game, chewy, nice length, nothing over-the-top as can sometimes be the case with zins. I would say not a lot more you could ask in the price range.
Good Value wine
I think it is a good value wine, drinkable on it's own. I was hoping for more depth for being an Old Vine wine. Overall, I'd purchase again.
Fully mature, well balanced Zin. Not a blockbuster jammy Zin if that's what you're used to, but delicious and ready to drink today.
My first goof.
I know that this was not a pricey wine.
I love great Zins.
This is certainly not a terrible wine.
It is simply not a good purchase.
I have a case (minus one bottle).
Now, I will ry to find a good use for it.
M. Cline is good. Never a disappointment
2008 Three Old Vines Zinfandel
This wine might benefit from decanting and aeration. Although peppery, it was closed and slightly on the acid side. It lacked the advertised explosive aromas and was a disappointment relative to its price. Whether it was bottle sick from warm transport remains to be seen. When we next taste this in about 6 months we will ad another note.
