Medium red. Pungent aromas of cherry, truffle and smoky minerality. Began juicy, quite dry and uncompromising if subtle and sappy, then opened slowly to reveal flavors of redcurrant and spices complicated by saline soil tones. This extremely unevolved wine is currently taut and tangy, not fleshy, and has buns of steel. A very adult wine with a fine dusting of tannins, an utterly seamless texture, and lovely lingering perfume. Totally different at this stage of its life than the more velvety 2009 but this holds out considerable promise and will probably merit an even higher score a decade from now.
