Opaque ruby.  Deeply pitched aromas and flavors of red and dark berries, bitter cherry and cola, with intense mineral, floral pastille and Asian spice nuances and slow-building smokiness.  Dense but extremely energetic sweet black raspberry and cherry compote flavors are underscored and lifted by juicy acidity.  Gentle tannins build on a mineral-driven finish of remarkable clarity, power and persistence, with no undue weight.  This wine's blend of richness and elegance is stunning.  An early look at the 2011 version of this wine showed even more elegance and bright, racy red berry and exotic floral character, with the intense minerality that I have come to expect from this bottling.
