Bright, full ruby.  High-pitched aromas of cassis, blackberry and dark chocolate, with more medicinal bitter cherry and mesquite notes emerging with aeration.  Rich but youthfully tight, conveying an impression of brooding power.  This very dense wine is actually creamy and wonderfully fine-grained in the middle but comes across as quite firm and bracing owing to its sharp definition and restrained sweetness.  Communicates an impression of very even fruit ripeness.  Finishes with terrific mineral-driven length.  Built for long aging:  will this eventually surpass the outstanding 2009 bottling?

Stupendous 2010 Dominus
08/29/2014

Dark purple. Forest floor, minerals, raspberry - very distict on the nose.Takes 3+ hours to open fully. Once opened, minerals abound, Exceptionally fine texture on the mid palate. Spices in general, and licorice in particular emerge towards the end. Very light on its feet throughout. Somehow the word 'uplifting' keeps wiggling into my consciousness. Christian Mouiex takes you on a journey every time a bottling of Dominus is released. The 2010 differs from the incomparable 2009, but the traveling distances in both cases are light years, not mere inches. 97 points.

About Napa Valley

Napa Valley is the most famous wine-growing area in the U.S. It begins at the base of Mount St. Helena in the north and tapers off some 30 miles to the south into the floodplain where the Napa River enters San Francisco Bay. From Mount St. Helena to the city of Napa, the valley is defined by two north-south ridgelines of the Coast Range Mountains.
