Saturated medium ruby.  Inviting, slightly high-toned aromas of cassis, black cherry, violet, cardamom, star anise, licorice and mint.  Penetrating and aromatic in the mouth, with floral high notes lifting the primary, intense blackberry flavor.  Offers a lush texture but also terrific definition and grip.  Very silky, concentrated port with outstanding energy and a light touch for the vintage (not to mention for its 20% alcohol).  Lay this one down.  From vines more than 100 years of age, according to Burgundy fanatic Dirk Niepoort, who prefers this vintage to his 2007.
