90 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - September/October 2012

(90% tempranillo and 10% mazuelo, aged for 16 months in a combination of French and American oak):  Ruby-red.  Expressive aromas of candied cherry, pipe tobacco, rose and cracked pepper, with a vanilla undertone.  Broad and fleshy on the palate, with gently sweet red and dark berry flavors and complicating hints of cola and smoky herbs.  Finishes sweet and long, with supple tannins adding shape and sneaky grip.  This open-knit Rioja drinks very nicely right now.
