(100% carinena from vines reportedly planted in 1914): Inky purple. Fresh cherry, cassis, incense and smoky minerals on the high-pitched nose. Then juicy, spicy and sharply focused, with incisive flavors of black and blue fruits, spicecake and floral pastilles. The mineral quality comes back strongly on the strikingly persistent finish, which is framed by silky, harmonious tannins. This wine has the depth and freshness to suggest a long, graceful evolution in bottle but there's a lot going on already.
