Deep violet-ruby. Cassis, blackberry, graphite and ink aromas display good vibrancy and precision. Firm blackcurrant and spicy blackberry jam flavors are complemented by vanilla and tar, with dusty tannins lending a slight sternness. A note of chocolate-covered black cherry sweetens the spicy finish, which mounts in astringency with air. This seems to have been a little overextracted. (Barde-Haut's softer second wine seemed almost better balanced softer to me.)
