About Domaine Weinbach
Domaine Weinbach was established in 1610 by the Capuchin monks who also gave their name to the domaine's most prized vineyard, Clos des Capucins. The estate itself got the name Weinbach--which literally translates to "wine brook"--from a little stream that trickles through the property.
2011 Domaine Weinbach Gewurztraminer Altenbourg Cuvee Laurence
Producer: Domaine Weinbach
Style: White Wine
Grape Type: Gewurztraminer
Origin: France
Region: Alsace
92 Points | International Wine Cellar , September 2012
(from the marly calcareous soils of the lower parts of the Altenbourg, which also feature some sand): Bright, gold-tinged yellow. Captivating aromas of orange peel, mango, flowers and cinnamon. Creamy, superconcentrated and deep, with unctuous flavors of lichee and mango nectar given precision by harmonious acidity and a note of blood orange. As large-scaled and fat as this wine is, it manages to maintain an element of refinement. This would go perfectly with smoked salmon or Indian cuisine.
