(a blend of syrah, grenache, mourvedre and clairette; vinified entirely with whole clusters): Inky ruby. Sexy, spice-tinged black and blue fruit preserve scents are lifted by fresh flowers and white pepper. Juicy and precise, with energetic boysenberry and bitter cherry flavors picking up a spicy nuance with aeration. Supple tannins come on late, adding grip to the long, appealingly sweet, floral finish. This wine was raised in a combination of large wooden upright tanks and concrete vats. By the way, the 2012 version of this wine looks like it will turn out even better, with more elegance and floral character as well as intense spiciness.
